15 Minute Mama Reset

Between 6-7pm can be the worst part of a parent’s day, some even refer to it as the ‘witching hour’. We’ve all had a long day, whether we’ve worked, carried out the daily house chores whilst juggling the children and fitting in some sort of a social life, we still have responsibility over these mini humans and their bedtime routine is one that is recurrent and for me at least 3 out of the 7 days of the week is an absolute struggle (to the point at which I’m left wondering if I’m fit to be a parent!?).

Crazy how such small things that WE made can make us feel a whole load of emotions in such a short space of time.

Three things I do every day to reset after they are finally asleep to help me feel grounded, calm and myself again…

1. 5 min face mask: really zoning into the sensory element of how it smells and feels on my skin

2. 5 min hot shower: get that fresh boost followed by a fresh set of PJs

3. 5 min nighttime skincare: taking a moment of calm with nighttime skincare products, massaging it into my skin, whilst taking deep meditative breaths

Building healthy habits like these is not about powering through, it’s about setting yourself up for success. Small and manageable are the key. We are creatures of habit and are good at following the same patterns each day, for example, waking up at the same time, brushing our teeth, morning coffee etc. Experts say the best way to form new habits is to attach them to existing habits. Look for patterns in your day and think about how you can use existing habits to create new, positive ones.
