Couple of weeks until it’s that time of year again, where glitter and wellies are mandatory, the mornings are filled with fresh air and a grassy smell, there’s a sparkle in everyone’s eyes, the nights are warm, there’s a glow in the sky from the stage lights and a hum in the background from those late-night performances, the kids have never slept better, magic memories are made and cherished forever.
I was a camping virgin before last year’s festival – I mean some would say I’m too posh to camp (my brothers specifically- that’s where my nickname originates - being the youngest, only-girl, spoilt, sibling 😃) so camping for the first time and with kids absolutely terrified me, I had never done it before and not only did I have myself to think about I had my two precious (yet monsterish) minis to look after.
100% out if my comfort zone but we did it, loved it and are going back again this year and this is what helped us;
WAGON – (designed to carry kids & essentials for the day) a MUST, those little legs will definitely get tired, & they can nap in it whilst the you carry on partying into the night. Also, for when lugging stuff to and from the campsite 😅
WELLIES & PUDDLESUITS – prepare for British weather. 50% sun, 50% rain. Puddle suits were ideal as it gave full coverage, when those minis see a puddle they are going to go for it 💦
TIME OUT – take regular breaks during the day, head to a quiet area or back to camp for some down time away from the hype, we had to do this every day, for a moment I just couldn’t cope with Maya, we had to part for a bit so I took Asha to do fairy doors & daddy handled her, I have to admit I sobbed behind my sunnies as I felt overwhelmed & riddled with guilt for throwing her banana on the floor 🥺
TOILET TISSUE PACKS – we got bamboo ones from amazon, & had them everywhere, the wagon, all pockets, nappy bag, small & super handy when you find yourself in a loo with no toilet roll.
CARRY POTTY & LINERS – kept these in the tent, convenient for first thing when the kids woke, saves the faff of putting wellies, coats, walking to & queuing for the loos 🚽
FAIRY LIGHTS – to add extra magic ✨ I even went all out and had boho rugs for each of our bedroom entrances (catches bits before getting into bed), a cute windmill & solar light outside our tent. Luckily, we were very close to the festival, so it was only a 5/10 mins walk but others had flags above theirs making it easy to find their tent
TENT EXTRAS – making our stay that bit more comfortable: camping chairs, table, inflatable mattresses, pillows, throws (in addition to sleeping bags), lamp, night light (kiddies will not like it pitch black and gives a cosy feel throughout the night)
Who’s going this year? 🙌🏽
